Not as Successful as I'd Like

Sure enough, the stress eating resulted in another 1.5 pounds gained last week. The rich food of my weekend break probably did not help either.

I decided to keep pulling forward. I will count points this week and since becoming determined to own my overeating problem, I have not done so. I can only improve from here.

Got here from Fugly. I yo-yoed for 10 years between 120lbs and 180lbs. I have been stable at 140lbs for the past 5 years. I recognize that 120 is no longer sustainable for me like it was when I was 18.

I don't mean to sound like an infomercial, but the best book I ever read was the 10 Habits of Naturally Slim People. I stopped weighing myself (now I leave it to the doctor at my annual checkup) because I could not allow my sense of self worth to be tied to that damned scale. I learned to eat when I was hungry and to stop when I was satisfied. I judge my weight by how my clothes fit.

I still track my daily calories with FitDay, mostly so that I have a good idea of the calories that certain foods contain. I don't (and never did) take any supplements except for a multivitamin and chromium, which helps to regulate insulin. On days when I am not doing farm work I try to stick around 1800 calories. On days when I am doing farm work I stick around 2100. I have learned to love wholesome foods and I rarely desire things like chips or cookies anymore. My stomach often turns at the thought of them.

I did not lose the weight quickly. Took about two years. But the big thing is that I never put it back on again, and I feel confident that I never will because I learned to pay attention to my body.

Best of luck to you. I will be watching and rooting for you. The best advice I can give is not to try to lose the weight quickly. Take your time -- it will be more sustainable that way.

Hi, I found you through your comment on dp's blog. I have a weight loss blog too. It's called "Healthy as a Horse". I haven't been as brave as you as far as posting my weight and measurements. I'll keep in touch.
